As a self-funded, student-run organization, the Smoke Signal understands that for most small to mid-sized community businesses, it is not realistic to spend millions of dollars a year on advertising. It is often far more cost effective to advertise only in the local area. That is where the Smoke Signal can help.
The Smoke Signal is the official paper of Mission San Jose High School, located in Fremont’s Mission District. It is self-funded, which means it depends solely on advertisements and a small subscriber base for financial security. Each issue is exposed not only to our student body of 2,300 students but also to school staff members, parents, and subscribers from the surrounding area.
We offer several print advertising options to fit your preferences, from smaller business card-sized ads to larger full-page ads. You may also supply preprinted inserts. In addition, we also offer online advertising options on our website, www.thesmokesignal.org. A variety of dates are available for you to run your advertisement in, and the Smoke Signal is willing to accommodate everything from a full year of advertising to a single issue or online time period. Moreover, a business may choose to either pay in advance or wait until the invoice is dropped off after the advertisement has run. All print advertisers will also receive a free copy of our paper for the dates they choose to run advertisements.

Inserts price applies to flyers (8.5”x 11”) or half sheet no smaller than 8.5”x5.5”. Inserts can only be a maximum of 8.5”x 11” and must only be a single piece of paper. Prices are per issue, with the percentage discounts applying to the total fee (for all 4 or all 8 issues).
